As a parent of children in Fenton Area Public Schools, I am deeply invested in the district’s success and long-term future. When a vacancy arose on the Board last October, I saw an opportunity to contribute to Fenton’s continued success while helping address the challenges ahead. I felt a responsibility to step forward and serve. Since my appointment, I have gained firsthand experience in school governance, budgeting, policy, strategic planning, and accountability. I have also strengthened my understanding of effective board service by earning Level 1 and Level 2 certifications from the Michigan Association of School Boards. My prior service on nonprofit boards provided a strong foundation in governance, financial stewardship, collaboration, and organizational leadership. As an emergency physician and educator, I regularly evaluate complex information, use data to make informed decisions, work with diverse teams, and remain composed under pressure. These experiences have reinforced the importance of listening carefully, preparing thoroughly, acting with civility, and respecting the distinct roles of the Board, administrators, and educators. I am running to continue building on Fenton’s academic success, support our students and staff, responsibly steward community resources, and ensure every student has access to excellent opportunities and a clear pathway to success.
Fenton has demonstrated strong academic performance, but continuous improvement must remain a priority. I will support measurable goals and data-informed decisions while ensuring teachers and students have the curriculum, technology, training, interventions, and resources needed to succeed.
Student achievement depends on highly qualified teachers, administrators, and support staff. I will promote a culture of excellence where employees feel respected, valued, and supported. I will advocate for competitive compensation, professional growth opportunities, and the tools staff need to excel.
Declining birth rates, cost of living, and broader demographic trends are affecting enrollment. We must retain students and attract families by sustaining excellence in academics, athletics, extracurricular programs, student services, and facilities. We must also clearly communicate the opportunities and value Fenton schools provide.
